    Prison Cells
Random thoughts of Bluey at Wednesday, November 16, 2005 7:00 pm | Permalink
On my way to my office this morning ...

A client once commented that she felt like she was walking past prison cells. Duh!

    Progress of my thesis:
Done - 3500 words (Woo hoo!); 46, 500 more words to go!

    About Michael Fay
Random thoughts of Bluey at Sunday, November 06, 2005 10:22 pm | Permalink
I have been following news regarding Nguyen Tuong Van - an Australian caught with 396 grams of heroin at Changi airport in Singapore in 2002 and he is expected to be executed next month. His case has sparked many debates on capital punishment and petitions against his execution in both Australia and Singapore.

Nguyen's case reminded me of Michael Fay. Remember the American teenager who was given a jail sentence and 4 strokes of the cane after he was found guilty of vandalism charges. I wonder how he is doing now as an adult. Was he traumatised by the whole experience? Did he learn his lesson?

Well, I did an online search. After serving the sentence in Singapore, Michael Fay moved back to US. In 1998, he was caught in possession of marijuana and was fined $500. I bet he was thankful that he wasn't caught in Singapore!

    Convertibles

    I always love convertibles.

Look at this Mazda Miata MX5:

Sexy, mysterious, wild and yet intelligent. Hmm ... very nice. I think I'm almost in love.

Alright, I should go back to my writing.

Iodine Deficiency Disorder and IQ scores

According to this article, people with iodine deficiency disorder (IDD) may lose 15 IQ points - that means they become ... erm ... less intelligent or more stupid.

IDD can be prevented by the intake of ... obviously ... iodine in the form of iodised salt. I just checked the label on my salt shaker ... not iodised! I have to see whether I can get some iodised salt in the local store next week.

    Animals and Monogamy
Random thoughts of Bluey at Tuesday, November 01, 2005 9:01 pm | Permalink
Some TV programmes can be quite informative ...
According to David Barash (a zoologist, Professor of Psychology of University of Washington and the co-author of a book entitled "The Myth of Monogamy"), monogamy is known to be a lifelong activity in only 1 animal species - a flatworm that lives as a parasite in the intestines of fish. He said that 2 flatworms meet while they are still adolescents, and that their bodies fuse together. By fusing together, these 2 flatworms remain true to each other forever (literally).
I think that is amazing. Hmm ... they live happily ever after. Fairytales do exist! In the flatworm species!
